Visual and Performing Arts

  • ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ Hill Schools believes that all students learn best while engaged in areas of interest and activated through artistic learning experiences. We have a comprehensive arts program across the district. Our goal is to immerse you in the arts as you walk through the schools. Arts teachers are certified in specific areas of instruction. Many are also leaders in their professional arts organizations. We have strong connections with community organizations, such as the ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ Hill Symphony Orchestra, Showtime Theatre, and the York County Center for the Arts to strengthen student exposure and engagement in various arts experiences.

  • Elementary Arts  

    Students engage in visual art and music weekly in all elementary schools. ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ Hill School’s mission is to utilize arts education to grow and develop the whole child academically and artistically. Check with your child's school to see if there are any additional programs. Northside Elementary School of the Arts is a part of the choice program. As a choice school, the instructional day is infused with music, dance, drama, and art as part of an ABC curriculum. Students in elementary school can also audition for our gifted and talented Elementary Honors Choir, which performs in various venues throughout the year.

    Middle School Arts  

    All middle schools in ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ Hill Schools offer visual art, band, chorus, and theatre as part of their curricula. Students can select a variety of elective courses or engage in after-school clubs and programs in the arts. Students are encouraged to explore diverse options to develop skills and talents as they prepare for high school. Gifted and talented students can audition in instrumental or choral music, dance, theatre, or visual arts for the provided through a partnership with Winthrop University. Once accepted, students attend a three-week camp in the summer to work with world-renowned instructors in a variety of arts disciplines. In addition to ST-ARTS, students in band, orchestra, and chorus can audition for All-Region and All-State ensembles. All students in visual and performing arts courses will participate in performances, displays, and shows throughout the district and in the community.  

    High School Arts  

    ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ Hill High School, Northwestern High School, and South Pointe High Schools each offer a variety of arts courses as part of the Profile of a South Carolina graduate. Visual and performing arts courses are designed to engage students in artistic processes as part of a comprehensive arts education. High school arts teachers are highly qualified and certified in the instruction they provide. Courses progress from introductory to advanced, with all areas offering advanced-level courses. Honors and Advanced Placement (AP) courses are available upon teacher recommendation in visual arts, theatre, orchestra, chorus, and band. High school arts students have many opportunities to perform or highlight work throughout our district and community. High schools each have award-winning marching bands, which can be experienced at ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ Three Stadium during Friday night football games. All visual and performing arts programs create opportunities for students to perform and compete up to state-level competitions. Instrumental and vocal music students are invited to audition for All-Region and All-State high school ensembles.
