    GED Basic Skills Classes

    Have you been out of school for awhile and want to brush up on your basic skills in order to get that new job or promotion? We offer basic skills classes in the following subjects: Math, Language Arts, Reading, and Writing. Our caring, qualified instructors understand your fear of going back to school, and are there to help you achieve your dreams and be a success!

     

     

    GED Test Subjects

    The GED® test is made up of 4 subjects, broken into separate exams. You don’t have to take all 4 tests at once - you can space them out however it suits you and go at your own pace.  Click on the following link to learn more about each specific test including length, topics & format.  

     

    GED COSTS:

    South Carolina GED subtests COST $37.50 PER GED SUBJECT. ($150 for all 4 subjects)  GED-ready's are $6 per test to see if you are ready.  SC initiative Scholarship money is available for students who participate and qualify. See qualifications below. 

     

    How can I qualify for the South Carolina Initiative Money Scholarship at ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ Hill Adult Ed?

    • Complete the 2 days of TABE Assessments in Reading and Math (potentially 3 hours each day)
    • Earn a Silver or higher on the WIN Career Readiness Assessment (generally given within the first 2 days of classes) 
    • Complete a Post Test in the TABE Assessments after 14 (3-hour) classes OR 40 hours, (class or distance hours) whichever comes first.
    • Take a GED-ready ($6 each) and a scoreof 148 or higher.  Note:  you can take as many GED Readies as you wish, but they must be in our secure testing facility to qualify for scholarship money.

    GED Preparation (·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ Hill Adult Ed)

    The GED Testing Service sets the passing rate for the GED Test in all subjects. The minimum passing score is 145.  If you have passed one or more tests, please get busy and study on the other subjects, retake the GED Ready in that test, and try again if your scores show you are ready to retake the real test.

    GED preparation classes are held at the ·¬ÇÑÊÓƵ Hill Adult Education Center, 501 Belleview Road, Mon-Thu from 9:00am - 12:00pm with enrichment and tutoring activities from 1:00pm to 4:00pm Mondays through Thursdays and Monday and Tuesday evenings from 4:30pm - 7:30pm. Students can take classes to prepare for the Reading/Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies tests. Excellent teachers work with students to assist them in passing the GED test.

     ** Access to the learning environment includes Math Boot Camps, Calculator Skills training, test-taking skills, and Writing, Science and Social Studies workshops.  Classes typically begin the Monday following the initial 2-days of TABE assessments in Reading and Math. You will be given your start date and access to the learning environment AFTER completion of the TABE assessments and WIN Career Readiness Assessment.
